This document provides information on the computer source option available on the touchscreen located on the instructor station in every instrumented classroom on the NDSU campus.

Computer Source

The following section introduces the layout and functionality of the touchscreen after selecting the instructor computer as the content source in one of our learning spaces.

As always, be sure to start class first to use the equipment in the room. By default, the computer screen will be the first video source selected. Due to the nature of this source, there are few options available on the touchscreen when the computer is selected. You have two options available, to freeze or mute the video.

Video Mute and Freeze

Using the video freeze option sends a signal to the projector to freeze the video (highlighted in blue). When doing this, the projection screen image will freeze on the image that was showing when the button was pressed. The SMART monitor on the instructor station continues to show a live view of the computer, allowing you to continue working while the projector shows the frozen image. To unfreeze the projector, simply press the “Off” button in the Video Freeze Section. The freeze function is useful for displaying a welcome message, announcement, or review question from the last class to your students while you are getting your materials ready on the computer in your classroom.

The mute video section (highlighted in red) is next to the video freeze option on the touchscreen. This option puts the projector to sleep, removing the image on the projection screen entirely. This allows you to switch between programs or log into your accounts without the students in the classroom seeing your activity. Please note that video mute turns off the projector video ONLY. Audio will still be played in the room.

Another important note: freezing and muting video will not affect what your online students see. If you are sharing your screen with remote students in a video conference connection or recording your screen with YuJa, your screen will be transferred/captured even when video mute or freeze is selected. If you are about to log into an account or have sensitive information on the computer, stop sharing your screen in the online meeting, pause your recording, and mute the video in the room beforehand.
