Core Technology Classroom

For the Fall Semester 2025, Information Technology Services has implemented a technology trial in a limited number of classrooms on campus. The purpose of this trial is to assess the instructional technology needs across campus. These learning spaces are called Core Technology Classrooms.

Affected Spaces

Minard 208, South Engineering 120, Sudro 027, and QBB 114 are the learning spaces that will be participating in this trial.

Additionally, the QBB 114 and Barry 260 computer labs have been transitioned to bring your own device computer labs. Students are encouraged to bring their own devices to these spaces; a limited number of computers remain available for students who prefer or need them.

Updated Technology

The instructional technology in these classrooms has been updated to include a touch pad controller, classroom computer, document camera, laptop connections, and an instructor microphone.

Instructor Microphone – The microphone may be worn with the provided lanyard or clipped to a shirt. The microphone does not have a power switch and does not have a separate lapel and battery pack. To use the microphone, take it off of the charger and begin speaking. If you need to temporarily mute the microphone, press the button in the middle of it. When returning the microphone to the charger, be sure to press it all the way down into its charger to make sure it turns off and is charged.

Lecture Capture Capabilities – The core technology classrooms feature the ability to record your lecture using Yuja or Zoom. The room is not equipped with cameras or audience microphones. This means that lecture capture will only record the instructor microphone and the content being displayed. Be sure to repeat audience discussion into the instructor mic if you would like it to be in your capture. The classroom computer is preconfigured with Yuja to select the correct input sources. If you are using a different capture tool, be sure to select “Crestron” as your speaker output and “Shure APXD2 Echo Canceling Speakerphone” as your microphone input.

Laptop Connectivity – You may connect your laptop to display it on the projector using the HDMI or USB-C cables. Simply connect the cable and press the appropriate source on the touch panel. Additionally, if you would like to lecture capture using your laptop, connect the provided USB cable to your laptop to be able to capture the instructor microphone audio.

Touch Panel – The core technology classrooms feature a touch panel to control the classroom technology. If it is dark, press anywhere on the screen to wake it up. Then press the power button in the lower right corner to start the system. After that, you can change the source, adjust audio levels, mute and freeze the projector.
