Zoom Room FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions regarding Zoom Rooms are answered here.

How do I add a Zoom Room to my Zoom connection?

Simply log into the Zoom Portal at https://ndsu.zoom.us and find your reservation. Now select to edit the reservation and find the option for "alternative host" towards the bottom of the page. All our Zoom Rooms start with the letters WC- followed by the building abbreviation and room number. For example, Zoom Room in Sudro 26 would be called "WC-SUDR0026-01". As you start typing the Zoom Room name in the filed for alternative host, the list should populate based on the information entered and you should be able to find your building and room in the list. If you have trouble finding your Zoom Room, please contact us at avtechnology@ndsu.edu and provide your Zoom Meeting ID as well as your classroom information.

How do I show my remote participants or content shared by a remote participant on the projection screen in my classroom?

By default, the projection screen in your classroom will show the selected content source (e.g. computer or doc cam), while the SMART podium on your instructor station shows the Zoom Room computer feed, which will include the remote participants' video feeds or any content they are sharing. In order to show this video feed on the projection screen, please scroll down the source selection on the Crestron touch screen on the desk. Below the "Mobile" source you will find another option called "Zoom Participants". When this source is selected, the same video feed that is showing on the SMART podium will also show on the projection screen.

Why should I use Zoom Room? How is it different than using the Zoom app on my computer?

Zoom Room offers a simplified connection experience with easy content sharing and switching between content sources. For example, if you are regularly switching between a PowerPoint presentation from the computer and annotations from the document camera, Zoom Room allows this to be quick and easy. Also, no computer login or Zoom links are needed to start your connection. Your class will show up on the SMART podium as you walk into your room and you can start your class with the push of a single button.

Who can start my Zoom Rooms call?

Using Zoom Room anybody in your classroom will be able to easily connect the room system to your Zoom connection. This can be helpful if you need to teach remotely and have a student or TA start your class, and your students are still meeting in your classroom for the presentation. A single button push will allow you to connect with your classroom from anywhere in the world.

Where are my Zoom Room recordings saved?

Zoom recordings are saved in the same location as any of your other Zoom recordings. If the Zoom meeting is connected to your Blackboard class, students will be able to find and view the recordings directly from your Blackboard course as soon as the lecture has concluded.

How do I control Zoom Rooms?

The Zoom settings are controlled through the SMART podium or the Crestron touch screen. In rooms equipped with a USB switcher, Zoom Room controls are visible on the SMART podium and can be configured by simply touching the screen to select the desired options. In rooms without a USB switcher, Zoom controls can be found on the Crestron touch screen by selecting "Open Zoom Room controls". The illuminated House icon on the bezel of the touch screen can also be used to jump between the Zoom Room controls and the regular Crestron classroom controls.

Who can use Zoom Rooms?

Anybody using an instrumented classroom at NDSU can use the Zoom Room technology available. Simply start the system in Zoom Room mode using the Crestron touch screen and then select to join a meeting. When asked, enter the meeting ID and passcode (if applicable) and you are in the meeting.

Can I use Zoom Rooms to join any Zoom Meeting?

Yes. Simply start the system in Zoom Room mode using the Crestron touch screen and then select to join a meeting. When asked, enter the meeting ID and passcode (if applicable) and you are in the meeting.

Why does my name show up as WC-AGHC0123-01" when I join a meeting using Zoom Rooms?

The name displayed in the Zoom meeting is the name of the Zoom Room account. Zoom Room accounts follow a standardized naming scheme around campus. The name of the Zoom account can easily be changed in the Zoom meeting in the Zoom participant window. Please note that the change in the Zoom participant window will only be for the duration of the meeting and will revert back to the actual account after the meeting has concluded.

Why can't I adjust the camera and microphone settings on Zoom Rooms?

Room camera and microphone settings are controlled using the Crestron touch screen on the instructor podium. Any changes to the camera or microphone settings completed using the touch screen will immediately be reflected in your Zoom meeting.
