Personal SMS Messages
The Zoom app has the ability to send and receive cellular text messages from your NDSU extension (for most users this is a no cost feature). Just like a cell phone, an outside party can call your extension to talk to you or send you a text message to the same extension.
If SMS has not been enabled for your extension (you don’t see the SMS section in the Zoom Phone module of the app), please contact the IT Service Center for more information.
Zoom SMS is different from the Zoom Team Chat feature and Microsoft Teams Chat. Zoom SMS is a feature of Zoom Phone and provides texting outside of NDSU using cellular networks, while Microsoft Teams Chat and the Zoom Team Chat feature are for communicating with individuals in NDSU or sister NDUS institutions. Please note that SMS functionality is not available for Zoom traditional telephone sets.
How to find SMS
- To find SMS conversations, click the Phone tab, and SMS tab.
Creating and Sending an SMS
- Select the "New SMS" icon in the top right corner within the tab. You can send a message to a group of up to 10 numbers.
- Next to the "New SMS" icon is a magnifying glass, where you can use keywords or filters to search your messages. Hover over a searched message to view context or jump to that conversation.
- Enter a name or phone number for the recipient of your message. Compose and send your message with the icon in the bottom right corner of the text area. You can attach images (one at a time), but not video files.
About the Conversation
- Select the "More Info" icon in the top right of your conversation to search in the conversation, see the members of the conversation, and see images and files shared in the conversation.
