Polling
Polling tools help increase student engagement by providing opportunities for real-time interaction, formative assessment, and immediate feedback. NDSU supports several polling solutions that can be used in face-to-face, hybrid, and online learning environments to assess understanding and encourage participation.
Getting Started
To begin using polling at NDSU, determine which polling method best meets your instructional needs:
- Vevox - NDSU's institutionally funded and supported polling solution. Vevox integrates with Blackboard and enables instructors to create interactive quizzes, real-time polls, anonymous Q&A, and live word clouds. Results can also be synced with the Blackboard Gradebook.
- Zoom polls allow meeting hosts to create and launch polls before or during a Zoom meeting to engage participants, assess understanding, and gather feedback.
Use Cases
- Check student understanding during a lecture.
- Encourage participation with anonymous polling or Q&A.
- Collect formative assessment data to guide instruction.
- Conduct interactive quizzes during in-person or online classes.
- Gather feedback from meeting or event participants.
- Measure student learning and, when supported, sync grades with Blackboard
Universal Design/Accessibility
- Design polling activities to be accessible to all participants by using clear, concise language and avoiding unnecessary complexity.
- Ensure polling tools are compatible with assistive technologies and provide alternative formats when needed.
- Allow sufficient time for responses and consider multiple methods of engagement to support diverse learning needs in alignment with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles.
