Secure File Transfer - Creating a FileLink

This option allows you to upload a file for download and generate a link that can be sent to the desired recipient(s).

A FileLink allows you to send a link directly from your NDSU email account instead of through the Secure File Transfer generic noreply email address. However, you are unable to set other access restrictions such as expiring the download after X number of downloads. Anyone who were to obtain the link could download the file until the file expires.

  1. Go to Secure File Transfer (https://filetransfer.ndsu.edu) log in with your Bison Login
  2. Click the FileLinks option in the top menu
  3. Click the + New FileLink button
  4. You can either click the + Add File button to navigate to the file you want to send, or drag and drop the file from the location on your computer into the Drop Files Here box
  5. Set the Link Expires date
    • It defaults to 5 days, maximum of 14 days
    • We recommend setting this to as short as possible
  6. Only check the Require Authentication with an NDSU Account if the recipient is an NDSU employee
  7. You can create an optional password for them to enter in order download the file
  8. Click the Create Link button
  9. Click the Copy FileLink to Clipboard button (above the Set Password button).
  10. You can now paste the link into a new email message to send to the recipient
