Secure File Transfer - Sending Files within Secure File Transfer

This option allows you to send an email with a file to download within the Secure File Transfer application itself.
  1. Go to Secure File Transfer (https://filetransfer.ndsu.edu) and log in with your Bison Login account and password
  2. Compose a Message by filling out the To, Subject, and Message sections
    • It is recommended that you copy and paste your signature into your message
    • The Message section of a file transfer message is NOT encrypted
  3. Drag and drop your file(s) to the Drop File Here box, or click  + Add Files...  to navigate to the files you wish to send
  4. Once the file(s) are uploaded, you can set download restrictions below the Message section of the page. While you have the option to leave the Message Expires After blank to allow unlimited downloads before the link expires, we recommend setting a specific number of Downloads for files with sensitive data. Below are the different settings and how each affects the download restrictions:
Note: The message expires by default after five days (you may extend this up to 14 days)
    1. Option 1 (the default): Authentication Required
Recipients must be NDSU employees and login with their Bison Login account. Choose a sub-option:
      1. Recipients Only
Only Specified Recipients can access the message and download the files
Forwarding the email or URL is not allowed
Recipients will be required to login to download the files
      2. Recipients + Locals
Only Specified Recipients and local users can download the files
Forwarding the email or URL is allowed to other local users
Local users are other NDSU Employees
Recipients will be required to login to download the files
      3. Recipients + Domains
Only Specified Recipients and respective email domain users can download the files
If you send to boss@partner.com, secretary@partner.com can also access the message but not sneaky@competitor.com
Recipients will be required to login to download the files
      4. Anyone (Secret Link)
Anyone that has the secret, randomized URL can download the files
The email or URL can be forwarded to anyone
Recipients will be required to login to download the files

For all these sub-options:  A download receipt will be sent when each user downloads each file with detailed download information.
    2. Option 2: Authentication Not Required
Recipients can be NDSU employees or non-NDSU employees, which includes students
Anyone that has the secret, randomized URL can download the files
Login is not required to download the files
A Basic Download Receipt will be sent when the first download by anyone occurs (authentication is required to know who downloaded what)
  5. Click Send
