Extra Credit Assessments
Creating Extra Credit Assessments
In Blackboard Ultra, you can create an extra credit assignment, test, or activity and designate it as Extra Credit.
Once created, the assessment will not negatively affect a student’s grade if they do not complete it. You can then assign extra credit points to students as needed.
Extra credit assessments appear in the Gradebook like other items, but they contribute points beyond the total points or weighted categories already used in your course.
How Extra Credit Works in Ultra
- Extra credit items add points on top of the student’s Overall Grade.
- Students who do not submit the extra credit item will not be penalized.
- Extra credit can be used with:
- Points-based Overall Grade
- Weighted Overall Grade
It is important to verify that your course grading setup supports extra credit correctly. Depending on your Overall Grade calculation method, the process may differ.
If You Are Using a Weighted Overall Grade
Weighted grading requires extra attention because the category weights must always add up to 100%. To learn how to create extra credit assessments and include them correctly in the Weighted Overall Grade calculation, please visit the [Link for document 157118 is unavailable at this time] page.
If You Are Using a Points Overall Grade
Points-based grading is the simplest method for extra credit because extra points naturally add on top of the total possible points.
