Getting Started with Honorlock as a Student
Honorlock is NDSU’s online proctoring solution used to ensure academic integrity during online exams. It integrates directly with Blackboard and allows you to take exams from anywhere while being monitored through your webcam, microphone, and screen.
What You’ll Need
Before starting your exam, make sure you have:
- A computer (Windows or Mac – no mobile devices or tablets)
- Google Chrome browser
- Honorlock Chrome Extension (you’ll be prompted to install it)
- Webcam and microphone
- Stable internet connection
- Your NDSU Student ID or a government-issued photo ID
How to Get Started
- Log in to Blackboard and open your course.
- Navigate to the exam that uses Honorlock and click on it to begin.
- If prompted, install the Honorlock Chrome Extension from the Chrome Web Store.
- Verify Your Identity by following the on-screen steps to verify your ID and scan your testing environment.
- Once setup is complete, your exam will launch in a secure environment.

Honorlock only records during your exam session and stores data securely. It monitors:
- Webcam and screen activity
- Audio
- Browser behavior

Troubleshooting Tips
- Restart your computer before the exam.
- Close all unnecessary tabs and applications.
