Multi-Function Printer Setup (Mac)

Below are instructions on how to set up a multi-function printer on a Mac.

Before the setup: 

You will need to know the DNS Name, Model and your 5 or 6 digit code for the MFP (Multi-Function Printer).

The DNS Name should be on a white label on the printer, the model number is also on the front of the printer. Codes are obtainable by either contacting your department’s Administrative Assistant or by calling Print and Copy Services at 231-5000. 

IMPORTANT - Most Multi-Function Printers on NDSU campus require a user code in order to print. You will need to follow ALL instructions before you can print.

Step 1 

  • Go to the Ricoh Download page.
  • Enter the model number of your Printer in Search for downloads field.
  • Select Drivers of your respective printer model and accept their 'Software License Agreement'.
  • Download and install the latest Ricoh Driver for macOS
    • If prompted after downloading and installing, click OK to place the installer in the Trash.

Step 2 

  • Click the Apple Icon in the top left and select System Settings.
  • Scroll all the way down to Printers & Scanners.
  • Click the Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax button.
  • Click the IP (Globe icon) tab at the top.
  • Enter DNS Name (starts with "PRN") in the Address box.
  • Change the Protocol drop down to Line Print Daemon - LPD.
  • Click on the Use: drop down and -
    • Go to Select Software
    • Search/Filter out the results by your printer model 
    • Find the correct driver you just installed (the driver name may vary slightly from the actual model name), and hit OK.
    • Click Add to finish the process.

Step 3 

  • Depending on your department, you might need to provide with a 'User Code' to initiate print jobs.
  • Open any editing program that is installed on your system (MS Word, TextEdit etc). 
  • Click on File and select Print.
  • Scroll down and expand the Printer Options menu.
  • Click the information icon in the Job Log line.
  • Check the Enable User Code box.
  • Type in your 5 or 6 digit code and click OK.
  • Scroll up and click the Presets drop down.
  • Select Save Current Settings as Preset.
  • Enter a Preset Name such as Standard-1.
  • Hit OK.
  • Click Print and check the Multi-Function Printer to confirm printing.
