Philosopher Kwame Anthony Appiah to Give Free Virtual Lecture Sept. 17

One of the world's leading public philosophers will examine the ideals behind American democracy as the country approaches the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence
Students, faculty, and staff are invited to a free virtual presentation by Kwame Anthony Appiah, “The Democratic Spirit at 250,” from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17 on Zoom.
Appiah will explore the philosophical foundations of liberty, equality, civic responsibility, and the democratic ideals that continue to shape American life. The program includes a lecture followed by audience questions.
About the Speaker
Appiah is Professor of Philosophy and Law at New York University. He is a recipient of the National Humanities Medal and the Library of Congress Kluge Prize, and the author of numerous influential books on ethics, identity, culture, and democracy.
