The Career and Advising Center announces its fall faculty advisor training series.
Join the Career and Advising Center team throughout the fall semester for a series of faculty advising workshops designed to strengthen academic advising knowledge, enhance advising skills, and support student success.
All sessions will be held on Zoom. Sessions will be recorded and posted on the Career and Advising Center web page.

Academic Advising 101
Wednesday, September 2nd from 3:00-4:00 PM
This session will be a high-level overview of undergraduate academic advising at NDSU. Learn more about the proactive, holistic academic advising work of our professional advising team and the partnership with and transition to faculty academic advisors. This session will also include an overview of resources and policies to be familiar with as a faculty academic advisor.
Bison Advise for Faculty
Wednesday, September 9th 3:00-4:00 PM
Bison Advise is NDSU’s Student Success Management software. This all-in-one platform provides a way for academic advisors to see academic information for their undergraduate and graduate students easily through dashboards and lists. This session will cover how to set up appointment availability, input and view helpful historical advising notes, and other helpful information you can use to support your advisees.
Using “Plan” for Academic Planning

“Plan” is a tool within Bison Advise that provides an interactive degree planning and class registration tool for students and advisors. Students and advisors use the platform to collaborate on creating their degree plan in real time. Planned courses seamlessly appear in Schedule Planner when that semester’s registration period opens for ease in course registration.
Academic Requirements Report and Degree Audits

The Academic Requirements Report within Campus Connection is official degree requirements tracking method at NDSU. Attend this session to learn more about how to accurately read and review the Academic Requirements Report when working with your advisees. Learn more about how substitution and waivers impact the requirements report as well as what to do when you receive a “Degree Audit” email from your department’s Degree Analyst in the Office of Registration & Records.
Student Registration and Re-Enrollment for Faculty
Wednesday, November 18th 3:00 – 4:00 PM
Re-enrolling our current students is one of the best ways to support our enrollment and retention numbers. Attend this session to learn more information and best practices for identifying and communicating with students that have not yet enrolled for the spring semester. Career and Advising Center staff will present on campus-wide outreach efforts to support re-enrollment and focus in on ways individual faculty advisors can help with this outreach.
Supporting Your Advisees Between Semesters
Wednesday, December 9th 3:00-4:00 PM
When fall semester ends, the work does not stop. Attend this session to learn more about critical work that is done in between semesters once grades post to support student success and degree progression. Attendees will learn information about academic standing, outreach to advisees who may need to adjust class schedules, and other timely information to help students wrap up one semester and start the next on the right note.
