What to Know About Honorlock Proctoring This Fall

Honorlock has replaced its Room Scan Video with a phone-based Workspace Scan and moved its mobile app out of beta, so review your exam settings before the first test of the semester.

How Honorlock Works

Honorlock pairs AI monitoring with live remote proctors through Live Pop-in technology. Students can start an exam at any time with no advance scheduling, and the Honorlock and Blackboard integration enters the exam password behind the scenes so it stays hidden from the student. Sessions are recorded for instructors to review afterward. If the AI flags a potential integrity concern, a live proctor checks in, monitors more closely and, when needed, joins the session to ask the student to remove unauthorized resources or stop a prohibited behavior.

What Is New This Semester

Workspace Scan. This replaces the previous Room Scan Video. Instead of a video walkthrough, students use a smartphone to take a single wide-angle photo of their desk and immediate workspace, guided step by step for a consistent, high-resolution view you can verify quickly. The front-facing camera keeps recording while the photo is taken, and depending on your exam settings Honorlock may scan the image for potential unauthorized materials and flag anything it finds so you make the final call. Mobile app. The Honorlock mobile app now walks students through the full pre-exam setup from their phone, covering identity verification, workspace scan and side-angle camera placement in one guided flow. A progress tracker shows only the steps a given exam requires, and the student’s desktop browser displays real-time progress so they know when to return to their computer.

Enhanced Desktop Security. This exam setting blocks unapproved applications during the exam and disables AI-powered browser features such as Google Lens for the duration of the session. Students’ Chrome profiles, including bookmarks and saved credentials, remain intact.
