Honorlock's latest release gives instructors more control over proctored exam settings, with new security options, a two-camera view, and a guided mobile setup for students.

Honorlock's latest updates make it easier to configure and manage proctored exams while strengthening the integrity of assessments. The changes give instructors more control over exam settings with less setup, and several add new student-facing steps worth sharing with your class. Highlights are below.

Enhanced Desktop Security

A new Enhanced Desktop Security option is now available in exam settings. When enabled, it blocks the use of unapproved applications during an exam and disables AI-powered browser features such as Google Lens for the duration of the session. Students' Chrome profiles, including bookmarks and saved credentials, remain fully intact.

Dual Camera Mode

Dual Camera Mode is now active in NDSU's Blackboard instance. Instructors can require students to use two cameras at once, their computer's built-in webcam plus an external or mobile device, to provide both a front-facing and a side-angle view during proctored exams. This gives instructors and proctors greater visibility into the testing environment, both during live sessions and for after-the-fact review.

Honorlock Mobile App (Beta)

The Honorlock Mobile App guides students through their full pre-exam setup directly from their phone. Identity verification, workspace scan, and side-angle camera placement all happen in one guided flow, with a progress tracker that shows only the steps the specific exam requires. The desktop browser displays real-time progress, so students always know when to return to their computer to begin. The Mobile App is currently in beta.

Pre-Microphone Check

The Pre-Microphone Check is a required step in pre-exam authentication that helps students confirm their microphone is set up, connected, and working before the exam begins. An on-screen input meter moves when the student speaks, and students are prompted to say their name out loud to confirm audio is detected. Catching microphone issues during setup reduces mid-exam technical disruptions for instructors and students.

Faster Identity Review in the Session Viewer

The Session Viewer now includes a dedicated Authentication Assets section. Instead of scrolling the full session timeline, you can jump directly to the student's ID and workspace verification to confirm identity and setup in seconds. The panel provides quick access to ID photos, profile images, and workspace captures.

Workspace Scan Now Configurable per Exam

Workspace Scan was previously an all-or-nothing setting for the entire institution. You can now enable Workspace Scan on individual high-stakes exams under Environment Integrity settings, giving you targeted visibility into a student's testing environment exactly where you need it.

Other Improvements and Fixes

  • Redesigned session playback timeline: AI Flags and Proctor Events now appear in separate rows, making flags easier to scan and review.
  • Accessibility: Several WCAG 2.1 AA fixes improve the experience for students using keyboard navigation or screen readers.
  • Steadier video playback: Video in the Session Viewer now renders reliably at any timestamp.
