New KB Page Helps New Instructors Get Earlier Blackboard Access

A new Knowledge Base page walks advisors through how new faculty gain Blackboard and course access, and points those who want a head start to the developmental course shell.

The Instructional Design Center has created a new Knowledge Base page to help new instructors get earlier access to Blackboard through the developmental course shell. The page is a reference for anyone who fields questions about Blackboard access, so you can make the right referral when a new faculty member or PTA asks how to get started.

The page outlines how new faculty gain access to Blackboard and their term-based courses, a process that involves both Human Resources and the Instructional Design Center. It explains an important distinction: Blackboard access and course access are separate processes, so a new instructor may be able to log in to Blackboard before their term-based courses appear. The page also includes guidance on who to contact for each situation and answers to common questions.

Setting Expectations With New Employees

When communicating with new employees about Blackboard access, state clearly that work is not expected before their contract start date. The developmental course shell is an option we provide for those who would like extra time to get familiar with Blackboard Ultra or to work on their courses. It is a resource, not a requirement.
