Microsoft Teams - Sync Teams Folders and Files to your Computer

Sync your Teams folders and files to your computer. For Windows this will sync your Teams folders and files to Windows Explorer and for Macs it will sync to Finder. This allows you to access your Teams folders outside of the Teams application and right on your computer with the rest of your files.

How to sync your Teams folders and files to your computer

Syncing your Teams folders and files is the same process on a Windows computer or a Mac. This is done by syncing each Channel's Shared folder and file structure you have data stored in.

  1. Before Syncing, you will need to make sure you are signed into the OneDrive App on your computer
    • Search for OneDrive in the Windows search and open the app, if you are not signed in it should prompt you. Sign in with your N.D. University System Account and password.
  2. Open Teams
  3. Select the Channel you want to sync the data from
  4. Select Shared from the top channel menu
  5. Select the three ellipses ... in the Shared menu to open the More commands menu
  6. Select Sync from the More commands menu
    • Note: Do NOT select Add shortcut to OneDrive as that is a different feature that adds shortcut to your personal OneDrive
  7. You should see window that says We're syncing your files, you can click Close on that window
  8. Your files should now be synced to your computer

Accessing your synced Teams folders and files

Windows:

  1. Open File Explorer
    • File Explorer is usually a folder icon on your taskbar
  2. Scroll down
  3. You should see North Dakota University System on the left, near This PC
  4. Your synced channel folder(s) should display under North Dakota University System
  5. The names of the folders will follow the following format:
    • Team Name > Channel Name

Mac:

  1. Open Finder
    • Finder is usually an icon on your dock
  2. Scroll down to Locations
  3. Select OneDrive - Shared Libraries - North Dakota University System
  4. Your synced channel folders will show up in the main window
  5. The names of the folders will follow the following format:
    • Team Name > Channel Name > Folder Name
