International Travel: DUO Mobile app

🔐 DUO Two‑Factor Authentication and Export Controls

The DUO mobile app and the hardware tokens used for NDSU’s two‑factor authentication are considered encryption items and are subject to U.S. export control regulations. Both the DUO app and DUO hardware tokens are controlled for use in Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Syria, and the Crimea Region of Ukraine.

If you travel to any of these locations, remove the DUO Mobile app from any device you bring, and do NOT take a DUO hardware token with you. While in one of these countries, you must authenticate using a phone call or an SMS‑delivered pass code for Two‑Step Login.

Contact the Export Control office with questions or to check whether a license exception is available for the specific country you will be visiting.
