Setting up your Aruba Access Point (AP)

The instructions below will help you set up your Aruba VPN device which will allow you to connect to a campus network from home. The device connects using your home network, it does not replace it. Once you have the device set up and you are connected to the accessU wireless network, your connection would be the same just as though you are connected to the eduroam network on campus.

You will need the following before starting:

  • Functioning home network with an open network port on the router
  • Aruba Device
    • Pre-assembled Aruba AP unit and stand
      Aruba AP Unit and Stand
    • Power cord
    • Power supply
    • Network cable

Follow the below instructions to set up and connect to the device

  1. Connect the power cable to the power supply
  2. Connect the power cable to the Aruba AP and plug the power into power
  3. Connect the provided network cable to the black E0/PT connection on the bottom of the Aruba AP
    Aruba Ports
  4. Connect the other end of the network cable into an open port on your wireless router
  5. It will take a bit of time, but the Aruba AP device will now boot and configure, it will be ready when the WiFi light turns on

  6. You are now ready to connect to the accessU network
    • If you prefer a wired connection, you can connect a separate network cable from your computer to one of the E1, E2, or E3 network ports on the bottom of the Aruba AP device, and don't need to proceed with steps 7-9.
  7. From your computer open the available wireless networks and select accessU
  8. You will be prompted to enter your username and password. Use the following login information:
    • Username: @ndsu.edu email address (not @ndus.edu)
    • Password: NDSU electronic ID password
  9. Connect
    • Some devices may prompt you to trust or accept the certificate before the device will connect
    • If your device asks for additional configuration settings, please reference the Additional Connection Information on the Wireless - Eduroam page
All traffic from any device connected to the Aruba Access Point goes through the NDSU network and will appear as if it is originating from NDSU.
