New Employee Account Setup

This web page is intended to give instructions for new staff and faculty to set up their accounts before starting at NDSU.

Checklist Summary:

N.D. University System Account Setup

Used for the following systems: HCM (Self-Service); Email (@ndus.edu); Blackboard NDUS System; Campus Connection

Step 1 - Claim your N.D. University System Account

  1. Go to https://claim.ndus.edu
  2. Click Claim my Account.
  3. Enter your Student ID / EMPLID and 8-digit birthdate in the fields provided and click Continue.
  4. Check I Agree then click Continue to proceed.
  5. Click the Continue button to set your account password.
  6. Input a new password.
  7. After new password has been accepted, click Change Password.
  8. A dialog box indicating that you have successfully changed your password appears. Click the Continue button to proceed to the next steps.
  9. You can now use the Setup Google Authentication or Setup Alternate E-mail options, or both, to set up password recovery options in case you forget your password.
  10. After you have set up your password recovery options, you are done with the NDUS account claim process and you can log out.

Step 2 - Set up DUO Multi-factor Authentication

  1. Go to the N.D. University System Portal page
  2. Log in using your N.D. University System username and password that you set up in the step above.
  3. Follow the prompts to set up Multi-Factor Authentication for the first time. For detailed setup instructions, visit https://guide.duo.com/universal-enrollment
    1. You should enroll at least 2 device options. If you set up the Face ID or Touch ID option, be sure to ALSO set up either the Duo Mobile (recommended) or Phone number option in addition to the bio-metric option
    2. Follow the steps for each device option until you are logged into the N.D. University System Portal page. You will need to approve multiple MFA prompts to complete the process.
  4. Once completed, click on your name in the top right corner and select Logout

Step 3 - Log In to your Campus Email

  1. Next, sign into your email for the first time by going to the Microsoft Office 365 login page.
  2. Enter your NDSU email username (typically FirstName.LastName@ndus.edu - notice @ndus not @ndsu) and click Next.
  3. Enter the password associated with your N.D. University System ID and click Log In.
    Note, if you see an error that your account is blocked, the account may still be syncing. Please retry this step in an hour.
  4. An Outlook Web App page should now load, choose your language and Time Zone and click OK to finish
  5. You should now see your Inbox

Activate your Bison Login

Used for the following systems: IT Managed Computer logins; Wireless Networks; Classroom and Lab computers

Step 4 - Bison Login

Your electronic ID is usually your Firstname.Lastname.
  1. Open a Web browser, and go to www.ndsu.edu/enroll
  2. Click Set up your Bison Login, and then enter the following information:
    • Last Name
    • Student ID / EMPLID (7-digit ID number)
    • Birth Month (MM)
    • Birth Day (DD)
    • Birth Year (YYYY)
  3. Click I agree to agree to follow university and N.D. University System policies and procedures regarding use of information technology services and electronic resources
  4. You will then be asked to approve a Multi-Factor Authentication prompt
  5. Set and confirm a password
  6. Add an email recovery option, and then retrieve the code from your email account to validate it
  7. Optional: Add a phone (SMS) recovery option, and then retrieve the code from your phone to validate it
  8. Click Logout in the top right corner when finished
