Online Teaching and Learning
Overview
Online courses are developed and taught using methods and strategies that are designed to engage and motivate students. Online courses are defined as courses offered, either in real-time (synchronously) or anywhere (asynchronously), via the Internet.
Getting Started
The Online Instructor Guide provides methods to design, develop, and teach online courses. The Online Student Guide provides a variety of resources to help students navigate the online environment and provides tips on how to be a successful online learner. The Teaching Technology Hub uses the pedagogy-first and technology-second model and organizes into categories of learning outcomes.
Best Practices
Teaching online and learning online are different from the traditional face-to-face model. Courses take time to design, develop, and teach. Several best practices for instructors include instructor presence, learning objectives by week/unit, clear expectations, and student engagement.
For students to be successful in an online course, recommendations are to create your schedules, ask questions, keep track of your progress, actively engage, and stay motivated.
