What types of "reimbursed or sponsored travel" must be disclosed in my Annual COI Disclosure?

Public Health Service (PHS) regulations require disclosure of travel paid by:

  • External professional organizations and societies;
  • academic journals and publishing companies, and
  • ANY travel reimbursed or sponsored by a foreign institution of higher education or the government of another country.

The following types of travel are excluded from PHS's disclosure requirement:

  • Travel reimbursed or sponsored by US government agencies, including:
    • Federal agencies (e.g., NIH, NSF, CDC, FDA, DoD, DoE)
    • US state or local government agencies
    • US institutions of higher education
    • US academic teaching hospitals
    • US medical centers
    • US research institutes affiliated with institutions of higher education
  • Travel that is not related to an investigator's institutional responsibilities
