Update on Iran Sanctions

• 1. Recruiting students, faculty, and/or staff, including when the NDSU activity occurs in a third country (i.e., outside both the United States and Iran).
  2. Filing or processing applications, or accepting payment for submitted applications.
  3. Providing distance education services, such as online courses or other instructional activities.
  4. Awarding scholarships or other forms of educational financial assistance.
  5. Participating in educational courses, academic research, or academic exchange programs.
  6. Hosting attendees or participants at NDSU conferences or NDSU-sponsored conferences, whether virtual or in person.
  7. Receiving payments in support of educational activities, such as tuition payments.

  Note: Tuition payments made to NDSU by an Iranian citizen, or by an individual ordinarily resident in Iran, do not require prior review by the Export Controls Office if the student:

  • Is enrolled in an NDSU academic program;
  • Is physically located in the United States under a valid visa; and
  • Makes the payment from a U.S. bank account.

Any NDSU faculty, staff, and/or student travel to Iran to engage in NDSU activities also requires consultation with the Export Controls Office, as it may require a license from OFAC.

• Contact the Export Controls Office if any current NDSU faculty, staff, or students (who are Iranian citizens or are ordinarily resident in Iran) have their visas revoked or are not renewed, but still plan on engaging in NDSU activities.
