Creating a Current and Pending (Other) Support form in SciENcv
The following agencies now utilize the Common Form for Biographical Sketches and Current and Pending (Other) Support:
- The National Science Foundation (NSF)
- The National Institutes of Health (NIH)
- The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA)
- The Department of Energy (DOE)
- The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
If you do not have a SciENcv account, see this page first: SciENcv: Creating and Connecting the Required Accounts
The Current and Pending (Other) Support Form includes the following components:
- Proposals / Pending Projects: proposals or projects that are pending or under review and will have an associated effort commitment, whether or not the effort is paid.
- Awards / Active Projects: awards or active projects that have an associated effort commitment, whether or not the effort is paid.
- In-kind Contributions should meet the following criteria for inclusion:
- Be from outside of your organization (if it’s internal to the organization, it typically is included in the Facilities/Equipment/Other Resources documents, as appropriate)
- Have an estimated dollar value of $5000 or more
- Have an associated time commitment on your part
- Certification
The goal of current and pending (other) support is typically to help the agency understand your existing and potential time commitments (your committed effort), and any overlap between projects.
Agencies are able to include additional requirements in the form of supplements – follow the instructions for the agency to which you are submitting (linked above).
Creating a Common Form Current and Pending (Other) Support Document:
- Log-in to SciENcv
- Check that the information in “My Profile” section on the main SciENcv page is accurate, as this will populate the identifying information on the document
- Use the “+ New Document” button
- Name the document
- Select the appropriate organization from the drop-down menu
- Select the agency “Current and Pending (Other) Support from” as the document type
- Select the data source
- Use an Existing Document: if you have previously created a current and pending (other) support document in SciENcv, even for another agency, this option allows you to import information from that document to prepopulate your new document.
- Start with a blank document
- Click “Create”
- If applicable, you will be prompted to select a sub-agency before you can “create” (e.g., USDA)
- Enter information about your proposals (pending) and active projects (current).
- Important: Be sure to enter the proposal currently being submitted as a pending project. In the “Statement of Potential Overlap” write “This proposal.”
- If you have any in-kind contributions, enter them in the appropriate section.
- Double check the information entered. If you see a red exclamation point, this is an area that requires an update before you will be able to finalize and download.
- Once you have completed your current and pending (other) support document, complete the certification by using the blue “download” button at the bottom of the form.
- The button will be greyed out if required items are missing.
- Important: Once you have downloaded the form, do not make any alterations to the document. Making changes to the certified document after it has been downloaded will result in an error when you try to submit. Instead, make any necessary updates directly in SciENcv, and download a new, certified version of the document.
For applications to DOE: For some programs, DOE will require a “CPS Addendum,” which is also developed in SciENcv. Separate and distinct from the Common Forms, this supplemental disclosure is focused on foreign country of concern (FCOC) connections, and is only required if the funding opportunity or award terms and conditions explicitly require the addendum.
Current and Pending (Other) Support FAQs:
-
- SciENcv does not allow “0” to be entered for effort. If a project truly does not take any of your time (there is no effort committed), then it should not be included.
- If you need assistance calculating person-months based on percent effort, see this resource from NIH: https://grants.nih.gov/news-events/nih-extramural-nexus-news/2026/06/what-is-a-person-month-how-do-i-calculate-it
