Conflict of Interest Training Requirements
Several Federal and non-federal sponsors require institutions to establish standards that promote the objectivity of research by ensuring that the design, conduct, and reporting of such research is free from any potential for bias resulting from Investigator financial conflicts of interest. These agencies require the disclosure and management of potential and apparent conflicts of interest, as well as the completion of online training modules on Conflicts of Interest.
Who must complete training?
Investigators such as the project director or principal investigator and any other person, regardless of title or position, who is responsible for the design, conduct, or reporting of research activities funded by an applicable sponsor. Sponsors include, but are not limited to: NIH, NSF, DoE, USDA, and other Agencies that follow the PHS FCOI Guidelines.
Training is completed through the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) for all investigators funded by applicable agencies. Training is valid for a period of four (4) years.
