Tips for Graduate Students - IACUC training requirements
In order to be involved with the care and use of animals in research, teaching or exhibition, all projects and personnel must be approved by the NDSU IACUC. If you are taking part in NDSU research or teaching with animals, make sure you have a copy of the approved protocol and that you have been added as an approved member of the research team.
Upon submission of a thesis/dissertation, the Graduate School requires a copy of the project approval letter and/or the amendment approval letter showing that the student is an approved member of the research team.
Prior to being approved to work with animals, all personnel must complete relevant training:
- Complete online CITI Training modules including "Working with the IACUC" and any species-specific training modules applicable to the protocol.
- Submit a completed Individual Training Log documenting the species and types of procedures that you are trained and qualified to conduct.
- Complete the NDSU OHS process through the NDSU Safety Office. This process can take up to 20 days.
The Graduate School will not accept a thesis or dissertation submission if the proper approvals have not been obtained. If in question about whether or not you have been approved, contact your project PI or the IACUC office.
