Student Employment - Assistant Network Infrastructure Engineer

Under the guidance of Network Infrastructure Engineers, complete a variety of tasks related to network equipment preparation, setup and installation. Also, work with inside and outside network and telecommunications cabling and cabling infrastructures.

Hours Per Week: 15-20 hours per week
Starting Wage: $15.50 / hour (potentially more depending on related experience/courses)
Reports To: Director, Network Engineering and Operations

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Unpackage, inventory and prepare equipment for installation
  • Work as a team member to install equipment at various locations on campus
  • Work with telecom and network structured wiring
  • Gather information and conduct research on various data center equipment and related items
  • Assist other team members with administrative tasks and other non-technical work
  • Complete low priority network and telecom work orders when assigned
  • Complete reporting and analysis of data center and rack temperature monitoring to support decision making for cooling system changes

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Basic working knowledge of computers
  • Good people skills
  • Ability to work with simple hand tools
  • Good written and communication skills
  • Current NDSU enrolled student
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds frequently

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity of networking equipment
  • Experience working with simple power tools
  • Experience working with computers in a networked environment
  • Ability to understand building floor plans
