Student Employment (NDSU only) - TLMC Web Content Management (CMS) Intern

The TLMC CMS Intern will assist the NDSU campus community on a walk-in or by-appointment basis with creating accessible and usable department web pages along with assisting with web content authoring projects. The CMS Intern will help develop tutorials and other documentation as needed to teach customers how to use the CMS system. He/she may also lead technology workshops in person and/or in recorded video sessions.

Hours Per Week: 20
Starting Wage: $10/hour
Reports To: TLMC Management Team

NOTE: This position could qualify as a graduate assistantship. To be hired as a graduate assistant, the following criteria must be met:
  
1) the student is a graduate student being paid via a stipend instead of hourly
2) the student must work the number of hours agreed upon and specified in the student's Graduate Contract form 
3) the student’s academic department must approve the work as being eligible for a tuition waiver

As all HTML editing is disabled in the NDSU CMS system, a successful candidate does not need to know HTML coding or web scripting. However, a basic understanding of how HTML coding works may help to better understand what's happening behind the scenes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide customers with one-on-one and small group assistance with their use of NDSU CMS on a walk-in basis or by-appointment basis
  • Conduct technology workshops related to authoring usable and accessible web content using the NDSU CMS platform
  • Develop and review/update workshop materials, online knowledgebase articles, and other documentation related to the NDSU CMS platform
  • Record and edit training videos for posting online
  • Attend regularly-scheduled meetings and training as scheduled by the supervisor and as required by the Student Technology Services (STS) program
  • Continually encourage responsible use of NDSU computers
  • Adhere to Student Technology Services work practices
  • Adhere to NDSU Human Resources policies
  • Maintain a high level of professional competency
  • Deal with sensitive situations and information in a confidential manner
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to quickly learn web authoring and accessibility best practices, or previous experience creating usable and accessible web pages
  • Ability to quickly learn how to use NDSU CMS for creating/maintaining web pages, or previous experience with NDSU CMS
  • Ability to quickly learn how to make video-based training materials, or previous experience with video editing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching, tutoring experience, and/or training experience 
  • Experience writing documentation
  • Experience making video-based training materials
  • Knowledge of web authoring and accessibility best practices
  • Experience authoring web content with NDSU CMS or another web content management system, or previous experience creating web content using the TYPO3 CMS framework
