Student Employment (NDSU only) - TLMC Media Services Assistant

The TLMC Media Services Assistant will assist students, staff, and faculty on a walk-in or by-appointment basis with technology-related course work and projects, including multimedia projects. The TLMC Media Services Assistant will help develop tutorials and other documentation as needed. He/she will have the opportunity to teach technology workshops, monitor the working condition of multimedia equipment and software, troubleshoot problems, and communicate any issues and workarounds to TLMC staff. Media Services Assistant would will with TLMC and other IT Division Staff to assist customers with audio and video recording using equipment in the Media Studio.

Hours Per Week: 15-20
Starting Wage: $10.35/hour
Reports To: TLMC Manager

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the working condition of multimedia equipment and software, troubleshoot problems, communicate any issues and workarounds to TLMC staff
  • Work closely with Full-Time TLMC Staff to develop guidelines and procedures related to multimedia services
  • Assist with developing and implementing communication methods to ensure projects are completed successfully
  • Research and assist with developing methods for educating users and TLMC staff about copyright guidelines, especially those relating to multimedia development
  • Research and review current multimedia trends and technology options in order to recommend equipment and software purchases or upgrades
  • Train TLMC staff to use multimedia equipment and software
  • Assist the Full-Time TLMC Staff with multimedia projects and advise customers about the best methods for accomplishing tasks
  • Work with the Full-Time TLMC Staff and other IT Division staff to assist customers with audio (podcasting) and video recording, using equipment in the Media Studio
  • Work with the Instructional Services staff and instructors to determine best methods/training to support the needs for multimedia-related assignments
  • Provide multimedia-related training to instructors and their classes, on request
  • Identify documentation needs related to multimedia (including Learning Links resources) and assist with developing necessary documentation
  • Continually work to enhance their own computer skills by attending ITS training sessions, flight attending for short classes, and perusing learning materials available in the TLMC lab and online
  • Attend regularly-scheduled meetings and training as scheduled by supervisor and as required by the STS program
  • Continually encourage responsible use of NDSU computers
  • Enforce Student Technology Services work practices
  • Adhere to NDSU Human Resources policies.

  • Deal with sensitive situations and information in a confidential manner
  • Other duties assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Committed to life-long learning
  • Advanced knowledge of various types of multimedia equipment and software, including one or more of the following: video cameras and multimedia decks; video editing software such as Final Cut Pro, iMovie, Adobe Premiere, or Windows Movie Maker; audio editing hardware and software; graphic design programs like Photoshop

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching, tutoring experience, and/or training experience
  • Experience writing documentation
