Student Employment - AV Technology Technician

AV Technicians are student employees who help maintain the computers and multimedia equipment in the classrooms across campus and provide general support and maintenance in the campus computer labs. This assistance and support will be provided via telephone and direct client contact. Although technical skills play a major role in fulfilling the requirements of this position, customer service can be an even more important contributor to success.

Hours Per Week:  15 - 20
Starting Wage:   $16.75 /hour
Reports To:   AV Experience Coordinator

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service to faculty and staff in response to reported issues
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve technical problems in instrumented classrooms and computer labs
  • Problems may be related to LCD projectors, A/V switcher/controllers, document cameras, computers, printers, etc.
  • Train students, faculty and staff on proper usage of presentation equipment
  • Complete printer and computer lab rounds
  • Check and test computer lab equipment to ensure proper functionality
  • Deliver paper and toner to printers around campus
  • Assist in the installation of instrumented classroom and computer lab equipment
  • Document troubleshooting processes and update incident tickets
  • Operate video conference equipment for classes and meetings
  • Install software images on instrumented classroom and computer lab computers
  • Follow safety rules, help identify unsafe working conditions, stop co-workers who are working in an unsafe manner

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Good troubleshooting skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Working knowledge of computers
  • Working knowledge of audio/visual equipment
  • Ability to work with simple hand tools
  • Current NDSU enrolled student
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds frequently
  • Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in customer service
  • Experience working with professional audio/visual equipment
  • Experience working with wiring and cabling
  • Experience troubleshooting problems in a fast paced, high pressure environment
