Microsoft 365 Licenses

Description of Microsoft 365 license levels for different groups at NDSU.

In May 2024, Microsoft made changes to the licensing of Microsoft 365. Individuals in job bands 6000, 7000 and 9000, and emeritus faculty/staff are assigned the A1 License while all other job bands are assigned the A3 license. Please see the table below to see the differences between the A1 and A3 licenses. More information about the different job bands can be found on the N.D. Requesting a License Upgrade

Those with a business need to upgrade to the A3 license for additional storage or the ability to have Microsoft 365 ProPlus, can contact their department’s software contact to request to purchase the A3 license for their account. The decision to upgrade and pay for the license is the responsibility of the department. 

Requesting Office for an NDSU Owned Computer

If you need Office for an NDSU-owned computer which is not managed by IT, please contact your department’s software contact to request Office 2021. If you have an IT managed computer, you can find Office 2021 in Software Center.
