If you have an analog or digital phone which has access to data jack, your phone will be upgraded to an IP phone before June 15.Phone request process change
Starting May 2, 2022 VCS will delay processing all phone change requests until after completion of the campus to SIP project. This will include all adds, moves and changes.Rates
All voice rates will change beginning with billing for FY23.
- Phones that were $17/month or less are changing to $19/month.
- Phones that were $40/month will drop to $35/month.
- Rental fees for phones will go away–departments will be responsible for buying the phone when refreshed. Phones purchased during the upgrade will be purchased by IT.
Who is affected?
Anyone who does not yet have an IP phone should get a new phone. VCS provided Telephone Administrators with a list of affected phones for their department to return with the new phone selected for this project.
Everyone who has voice service from NDSU IT will see rates change with the June 16 billing for the start of FY23.
When will the phone change happen?
Phone changes begin May 16, see full building schedule dates (make sure you are logged in to Google Drive with your NDSU account first). Review periodically for any changes in the schedule as this project progresses. Phones will be out of service starting at 10 p.m. the night before the buildings scheduled date until the new phone is installed. All impacted phones should be back in service by the end of business on the day scheduled.
Please advise VCS if there is any concerns or conflicts that may be impacting users from this schedule. Send an email to ndsu.vcs@ndsu.edu with “Schedule Conflict” in the subject line, include the phone number and bldg/room number.
When will rate change take affect?
Rates will change with the June 16 billing for the start of FY23.
Why am I receiving an NDSU Phone App Emergency Indemnity form from DocuSign? Is this spam?
This is not spam. VCS is sending these to each user. Now that we are moving to IP connections for voice there are options to use computer type apps. This form has been developed for the purpose of providing users with information regarding limitations when dialing 911 for emergency purposes from these apps. Everyone needs to read and sign this document via DocuSign. Your signature indicates you have read and understand the limitations.
Will my current headset still work with the new phone?
Older headsets may not work with the new phone type. If yours doesn't work, you can contact the Bookstore to purchase one that is compatible.
Can I still receive calls during the change out?
Yes, below are a couple options. Please note, when you place a call from your cellphone, callers will see your cellphone number.
- If you are currently using EC500 you will need to be sure it is activated the day before.
- Using voicemail and updating settings through the web browser, calls can be forwarded to your cellphone without the caller knowing the cellphone number. Please follow the directions at: Voicemail in Web Browser - Locations, Availability, and Calendar Integration .
What phone choices do departments have?
Departments can choose between two kinds of phones plus a softphone option. Please note the phone and the computer will share one data jack in most cases. When data jacks are shared the J179 phone will pass up to 1 gig of bandwidth and the J129 phone will pass up to 100 mb of bandwidth to the computer.
