Services for Students and Staff

The IDC collaborates with the university community to provide support in the pursuit of innovation and excellence in teaching and learning with technology.

Overview

In addition to faculty support, the Instructional Design Center (IDC) offers a variety of services for students and staff, including thesis formatting assistance to ensure documents meet institutional guidelines, one-on-one support for academic and instructional projects, and access to digital media software for creating and editing multimedia content. We also provide training on NDSU software and applications, helping users build confidence in using digital tools. For added flexibility, a collection of anywhere, anytime resources are available, offering self-paced tutorials and guides to support learning anytime, anywhere.

Walk-ins are welcome at the IDC in our open lab space, Quentin Burdick Building (QBB) 150G.

Thesis Formatting Assistance

The IDC, Microsoft Office & Thesis Formatting Specialist, provides technical training and problem-solving for thesis formatting. All IDC student employees are updated on common formatting issues in Microsoft Word and the NDSU disquisition templates. Collaborating with our student employees, the Thesis Formatting Specialist provides technical formatting assistance on a walk-in basis and conducts workshops online or in person every semester. For complex issues, we ask that you call ahead to schedule an appointment with the Thesis Formatting specialist at 701-231-5130.

Software & Application Training

The IDC offers monthly training sessions throughout the academic year, open to all NDSU students, staff, and faculty. Session details, including dates and times, are available on the events calendar. Please visit our Software and Application Events Calendar KB page.

Current training topics include beginner to advanced Microsoft Excel, thesis formatting using Microsoft Word, and enhancing the accessibility of documents in Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe PDF.
