Possible Respondus LockDown Browser Error - Workaround Solution

Effective 9/7/2020: Recent Blackboard system changes may cause errors when students try to take some Blackboard tests with Respondus LockDown Browser required. Instructors can use the steps below to fix this issue.

If students report seeing "Error: Problem with Test Options for this exam." when trying to take a Blackboard test requiring the Respondus LockDown Browser, first ask them if they were using a browser other than the LockDown Browser (i.e. Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc.). If they used the LockDown Browser and saw the error message, use the steps below to add a new password in the Respondus LockDown Browser Dashboard as a workaround solution for this current issue.

Do NOT add the new password in the Blackboard Test Options for this test - doing so will break the Respondus LockDown Browser requirement!

Note: This issue does not affect all tests requiring the Respondus LockDown Browser.

  1. Select Course Tools > Respondus LockDown Browser
  2. Click the down arrow icon to the left of the test title > Settings
  3. Enter a password in the Password Settings box > Save + Close
  4. If you see "Error Fix It" to the right on the Respondus LockDown Browser Dashboard page > click Fix It

Note: Be sure to provide the new password to students - remember, passwords are case-sensitive! Students will be able to open the test in the LockDown Browser after they enter the correct password.
