Displaying a Remote or Mobile Device in a Webconference Connection

Below are instructions on how to display a remote device in a webconference connection in an instrumented classroom.

For any presenting software, switch to the Mobile input from the Crestron control panel in the classroom. After Mobile has been selected, instructions to connect with a mobile Android, laptop, or Apple device will appear on screen. Once the mobile device is connected, it will appear on the screen in the room.

Option 1: Using Windows Camera App

The camera app will show the mobile device as an input, and can be used to easily switch between the mobile device display and another open item, like a PowerPoint presentation.

Zoom

  1. From a zoom call, select Share Screen
    • For classrooms with multiple monitors, select the screen you wish to share.
  2. After sharing the screen, use the Windows Search Tool to open the computer's Camera App
  3. Cycle through the camera inputs using the Change Camera icon in the camera app until the mobile device image appears on your screen.

Option 2: Directly Presenting the Mobile Device Image

Using the mobile device as a video input will allow for a larger and better view, but will not easily allow for switching between the display and another application that might be used during a lecture, such as a video or PowerPoint.

Zoom

  1. From a zoom call, select the “Share” option and navigate to the “Advanced” tab along the top.
  2. From there, select the option for “Content from 2nd Camera

  3. Selecting any of the listed cameras will show a preview, so the correct camera can be chosen

Microsoft Teams

  1. From a Teams call, select the “Camera” option to enable the camera
  2. If the camera does not show the correct image, navigate to the device settings
  3. Select the mobile device input from the drop-down menu under the “Camera” heading

Option 3: Connecting the device into the call as a second participant

When connecting your mobile device as a second participant into the call (the instructor desktop in the classroom being the first participant), please make sure that the volume is turned off and your mic is muted on the mobile device or you will get audio feedback in the room. You may also have to elevate the mobile device to being a presenter or co-host in your connection so you can share content from the device into the call.
