Student Employment - LAIC Media Services Assistant

The LAIC Media Services Assistant will assist the NDSU campus community on a walk-in or by-appointment basis with technology-related course work and projects, including multimedia projects. The Media Services Assistant has various responsibilities including, but not limited to: developing tutorials and other documentation as needed, developing and teaching technology workshops, monitoring the working condition of multimedia equipment and software, troubleshoot problems, and communicate any issues and workarounds to LAIC staff.

Hours Per Week: 15-25
Starting Wage: $12.41/hour
Reports To: LAIC Management Team

NOTE: This position could qualify as a graduate assistantship. To be hired as a graduate assistant, the following criteria must be met: 
1) the student is a graduate student being paid via a stipend instead of hourly
2) the student must work the number of hours agreed upon and specified in the student's Graduate Contract form 
3) the student’s academic department must approve the work as being eligible for a tuition waiver

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform all duties and responsibilities of a Learning Assistant
  • Assist customers with audio and video recording using equipment in the Media Studio
  • Monitor the working condition of multimedia equipment and software, troubleshoot problems, communicate any issues and workarounds to staff
  • Ensure that multimedia equipment is always set up and ready to use (i.e. batteries charged, default setting, properly organized, etc.)
  • Train staff to use multimedia equipment and software
  • Work closely with LAI staff to develop documentation related to multimedia services
  • Research and assist with developing methods for educating users and staff about copyright guidelines, especially those relating to multimedia development
  • In collaboration with LAI staff (instructors) determine best methods/training to support the needs for multimedia-related assignments
  • Provide multimedia-related training to instructors and their classes, as requested
  • Other duties assigned

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Excellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills
  • Committed to life-long learning
  • Well-developed computer skills
  • Advanced knowledge of various types of multimedia equipment and software, including one or more of the following: video cameras and multimedia decks; video editing software such as Final Cut Pro, iMovie, Adobe Premiere, or Windows Movie Maker; audio editing hardware and software; graphic design programs like Photoshop

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Teaching, tutoring experience, and/or training experience 
  • Experience writing documentation
  • Proficiency in Adobe, Microsoft, and Macromedia products and/or multimedia software and hardware
