YuJa - Editing Auto-Captions and Text Transcripts via Text Files
Below are instructions for editing auto-captions and text transcripts via text files.
YuJa automatically adds closed captions and transcripts to all recordings shortly after they have been processed.
You can edit those closed captions and transcripts in YuJa’s video editor, but it may be easier to edit them offline as plain text files and then upload the edited files to replace the automatically generated closed captions and transcripts:
Download the captions SRT file and the transcripts TXT files:
- Open YuJa > move the mouse pointer over the video > select More
- Select Accessibility in the Actions dialog box
- Click the download icon to the right of the SRT Caption File option to download the autocaptions to a plain text file including text and timings
- If prompted, choose Save File (depends on browser and browser settings)
- The downloaded SRT filename will include a number, the language, and the extension .srt
- Click the download icon to the right of the Plain Text option to download the text transcript to a plain text file with the .txt extension
Editing the Captions and Transcript files:
- Open the downloaded .srt file in a plain text editor (i.e. Notepad – Windows; TextEdit – Macintosh); the audio timings appear as numbers and time stamps
- Edit the text only – DO NOT change/delete the timings or the numbers
- Save the file with the .srt extension intact – the filename can be changed, but don’t remove or change the .srt extension and do not change the file format!
- Open the downloaded .txt file in a plain text editor (i.e. Notepad – Windows; TextEdit – Macintosh)
- Edit the text as needed > Save the file with the .txt extension intact – the filename can be changed, but don’t remove or change the .txt extension and do not change the file format! Learning and Applied Innovation - 4/20/2020 3
Upload the edited captions SRT and transcript TXT files:

- Select Accessibility > Upload > Captions
- Select a language > Browse
- Navigate to the edited .srt file and select it > Open > Yes
- Upload > Transcript (Plain Text) > Browse
- Navigate to the edited .TXT file and select it > Open > Yes
- Save Accessibility > Close
