Student Employment - LAIC Student Instructional Design Intern

The Student Instructional Design Intern position, in collaboration with the LAIC instructional design team, will support NDSU’s instructional technology and media services. This involves assisting faculty in developing instructional technology solutions using instructional design principles and adult learning theories; as well as assisting students, faculty and staff with media projects and media studio use.

Hours Per Week: 20-25 (up to 40 a week when class is not in session)
Starting Wage: $11.00/hour
Reports To: 
LAI Assistant Manager

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist faculty in designing and developing Instructional Technology solutions using instructional design principles and learning theories
  • One-on-one instructional consultations
  • Help identify tools that meet instructional outcomes of faculty
  • Help identify tools that meet learning outcomes of students
  • Work with faculty to develop lessons that address the learning needs of students in technology-rich assignments
    • Develop, promote and implement workshops, training (on-site and remote), web content, video vignettes, and Knowledge Base documents that:
      • Integrate technologies into teaching and learning practices.
      • Focus on pedagogy and/or best practices for teaching and learning with technology.
      • Focus on productivity software and technology solutions, for faculty, staff and students. 
  • Consult with academic departments to assess, and assist with their technology needs
  • Research and evaluate instructional best practices and technologies for course application
  • Complete LMS, lecture capture, and clicker system administration tasks as needed, and research/test upgrades and changes, in collaboration with NDUS as needed
  • Assist with technical troubleshooting and testing of various systems, including LMS, clicker solutions, lecture capture, and Content Management systems
  • Assist in assessing the effectiveness of technology solutions
  • Find ways to improve processes, products and customer service
  • Other duties assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Instructional design education or experience
  • Working towards Master's degree in instructional design or related field
  • Team experience
  • Demonstrated clear written, oral, and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience using Blackboard or similar LMS
  • Experience supporting video and web conferencing
  • Faculty and/or staff development experience
  • Knowledge of advances in design and pedagogy related to higher education
  • Experience with media applications
