NDSU Computer Lifecycle

The intent of this program is to address the entire computer hardware lifecycle on the NDSU campus.

New Hardware Purchasing

New systems can be purchased at any time through the NDSU Bookstore. Information Technology Services purchases new systems for some labs each summer. During this purchase cycle, ITS negotiates the best pricing possible for common systems. These standard systems at the negotiated price are available for departmental purchases by clicking on the link below

Cascade Machines (Deprecating FY2023)

The cascade program will have significantly fewer computers available in FY2022 than in years past and will likely end for FY2023.  Instead of replacing instructor and lab computers on a regular four-year refresh, they will be used for the full extent of their useful life.  In the past, each summer, four-year old computers become available for departments to purchase. These systems were estimated to have five- or six-year life spans.

Surplus Hardware

Systems that departments no longer need are sent to surplus. Physical data is removed from these systems.
