Printing from Linux at NDSU using PaperCut

Self Supported Guide for Linux printing with PaperCut

Before You Start

  1. Network Access

    • On-campus: Connect to eduroam Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

    • Off-campus: Connect to the NDSU VPN.

  2. Driver Choice

    • Use the Generic PostScript driver (good for all standard printing needs).


Setup Instructions

  1. Open Settings → Printers → click Additional Printer Settings…

  2. Click + Add to create a new printer.

  3. Select Enter URI.

  4. Enter this printer path exactly:

  5. Click Forward.

  6. Choose Generic → PostScript and click Forward.

  7. Name the printer something easy to recognize, such as:

    NDSU_Departmental_Printing
  8. (Optional) Print a test page to confirm setup.


Printing

  • The first time you print, you’ll be prompted for credentials.

  • Use this format for your login:

    Username:

    firstname.lastname@ad.ndsu.edu

    Password:

    Your NDSU password
  • After authentication, your print job will be held in PaperCut.

  • Go to a release station or supported copier and swipe your NDSU ID card to release the job.
