Student Employment - Communications Specialist

The Communications Specialist will provide ongoing support for communications, web, and marketing activities of the IT Division and its customers. These include, but are not limited to writing and editing announcements and messages that will be distributed to specific operational units, the university, the university system and the larger community. The role will also involve designing, developing and maintaining Web sites and assisting with planning and implementing marketing/communication plans, events, and activities.

Hours Per Week: 15-20 hours per week 

Starting Wage:  $16.75/hour 
Reports To:  Strategic Communications Manager 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Communicate regularly with IT Communications Coordinator to coordinate efforts, activities, and schedules 
  • Assist with writing and editing various internal and external messages and documents 
  • Assist in planning and implementation of marketing, educational and public relations efforts and events, including student orientation and resource fairs 
  • Assist with preparation of the IT Division annual report Participate in meetings and/or committees where appropriate 
  • Deal with sensitive situations and information in a confidential manner 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Current student enrolled at NDSU 
  • Sophomore standing or higher 
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 
  • Exceptional skills in print and digital design 
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator OR Experience using a Web content management system 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Excellent written communication skills 
  • Good oral communication skills 
  • Strong customer service skills 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Competence in journalistic writing, particularly Associated Press Style 
  • Experience using a Web content management system
