Student Employment - LAIC Technology Assistant

The LAIC Learning Assistant will assist the NDSU campus community on a walk-in or by-appointment basis with technology-related course work and projects, including multimedia projects. The Learning Assistant has various responsibilities including but not limited to; developing both end-user and internal documentation as needed, developing and teaching technology workshops.

Hours Per Week: 10-20
Starting Wage: $15.50/hour
Reports To: 
LAIC Management Team

NOTE: This position could qualify as a graduate assistant-ship. To be hired as a graduate assistant, the following criteria must be met: 
1) the student is a graduate student being paid via a stipend instead of hourly
2) the student must work the number of hours agreed upon and specified in the student's Graduate Contract form 
3) the student’s academic department must approve the work as being eligible for a tuition waiver

The LAIC Technology Assistant will assist the NDSU campus community with technology-related course work and projects, including multimedia projects. The various responsibilities include, but are not limited to: developing both end-user and internal documentation as needed, developing and teaching technology workshops, and assisting with Service Now (SNOW) tickets as needed.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide customers with one-on-one and small group assistance with technology-related course work and class projects
  • Develop and review learning materials, tutorials, and other documentation on University-standard technologies and multimedia equipment and software
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings and training as scheduled by the supervisor and as required by the Student Employment Services (SES) program
  • In collaboration with Workshop Coordinator, develop and teach workshops in various areas of instructional technologies
  • Flight attend workshops (assist the trainer by helping attendees during the class)
  • Assist customers with audio and video recordings
  • Monitor the working condition of multimedia equipment and software, troubleshoot problems
  • Ensure that multimedia equipment is always set-up and ready to use (batteries charged, default setting, properly organized, etc.)
  • Assist full-time LAIC staff with Service Now (SNOW) tickets
  • Continually encourage responsible use of NDSU computers
  • Enforce Student Employment Services work practices
  • Adhere to NDSU Human Resources policies
  • Maintain a high level of professional competency
  • Deal with sensitive situations and information in a confidential manner
  • Other duties assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Excellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills
  • Committed to life-long learning
  • Well-developed computer skills, including multimedia experience

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Teaching, tutoring experience, and/or training experience 
  • Experience writing documentation
  • Proficiency in Adobe, Microsoft, and multimedia software and hardware
