North Dakota State University researchers and educators are able to connect with more than 300 member institutions through high-capacity global research and education networks, commonly known as Internet2. These institutions include leading U.S. universities, corporations, government research agencies, and not-for-profit networking organizations with current membership in Internet2 and regional networks.

Advanced networking and technology applications support innovation in education and research. These include extended capacity for complex models of computation, visualization, and programming. The growing need for research and education in these high performance computing and advanced network resources continues to stimulate development of new media and technologies and the infrastructure needed to support them.

Primary examples of use include:

  • Shared courses by high school and post secondary undergraduate, graduate and continuing education delivered online and by videoconference
  • Research communities engaged in interactive collaboration, distributed data storage and data mining; large-scale, multi-site computation; real-time access to remote resources’ dynamic data visualization and shared virtual reality
  • Curriculum Enrichment for the classroom: videoconference-based content programs and collaborative activities aligned to curriculum standards
