⚠️ NDSU main campus property falls within Class D airspace for Hector International Airport; operators must have approval from the FAA to operate within the airspace.

Methods for Authorization:

  1. LAANC (Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability):  Best for immediate or near-instant authorization (typically at or below 400 ft).  Available through B4UFLY app.
  2. FAA DroneZone:  Use for flights not covered by LAANC (e.g., higher altitudes or complex, long-term operations).
    1. Log in to FAA DroneZone, select "Part 107 Waivers/Authorizations" and choose, "Airspace Authorization."  
    2. Submit requests at least 60 days in advance.
