Conflict of Interest Training Requirements

Many Federal and non-federal sponsors require institutions to establish standards that promote the objectivity of research by ensuring that the design, conduct, and reporting of such research is free from any potential bias resulting from investigators' financial conflicts of interest. These agencies require the disclosure and management of potential and apparent conflicts of interest, as well as the completion of an online training module on Conflicts of Interest.

Who must complete training?

Investigators, including the project director or principal investigator and any other person, regardless of title or position, who is responsible for the design, conduct, or reporting of research activities funded by an applicable sponsor.  Sponsors include, but are not limited to: NIH, NSF, DoE, USDA, and other Agencies that follow the PHS FCOI Guidelines.

All investigators funded by applicable agencies complete training through the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI). The training is valid for a period of four (4) years.
