Licensed Software Installation Instructions

This page contains installation instructions for the different software titles that can be purchased through Software Licensing

Select the software you wish to install from the list below to see instructions on how to install the software on your computer.

Note: You must first order the software before you will be able to install it. If you need to order the software, please work with your Department's Software Licensing Contact to order the software from the Request Portal.

Adobe Creative Cloud Apps

Adobe Creative Cloud Apps

The instructions below are users who have a license for any of the following Adobe Creative Cloud Apps

  • Illustrator
  • InDesign
  • Audition
  • Photoshop
  • Acrobat Pro for Windows
  • Acrobat Pro for Mac

Installing Adobe Creative Cloud apps

Current Users

If you already have an account and have added an additional app license to your account, go to https://www.adobe.com and sign in to view and download any newly added apps

New User Instructions

  1. Once your license has been granted, you will receive an email inviting you to Get Started with the Adobe Creative Cloud Apps which were assigned to your account
  2. Open the email and click the Get Started button
  3. Choose the Enterprise ID option
  4. This should bring you to the NDSU CAS login page where you can log in with your Bison Login
  5. Once you are logged in, you may need administrator rights on your computer to access the programs
    • Follow the steps below if you are on an IT Managed Computer to temporarily grant yourself administrator rights.
      • Open the Windows search and search for Make Me Admin and open the program
      • Once Make Me Admin is open, click the Grant Me Administrator Rights to temporarily become an admin on the computer
        • if it still doesn't work, try logging off after clicking the Grant Me administrator Rights and immediately logging in and try again
      • If you have problems with this process, or you do not have the Make Me Admin application, please call the IT Service Center at 701-231-8685 for further assistance
    • Contact your department's IT support if you are not on an IT Managed Computer and need assistance
  6. To fully implement your license, you may need to log out of https://www.adobe.com and log back in
  7. Once you are logged back in, you will have access to download and install your licensed products
    • Once you download the product, open your Downloads folder
    • Run the installation file you just downloaded and follow the installation prompts to install the software

Adobe Software: Activate, Captivate, Photoshop Elements, Premiere Elements/Elements Pro

Follow the instructions below for the specific Adobe Software you had ordered:

Captivate

  1. Once the license has been granted, you can sign in to adobe with your NDSU account login. (first.last@ndsu.edu)
  2. In the search bar at the top search "Captivate".
  3. Choose Download Adobe Captivate.
  4. Click on the blue button that says Try on Windows, or for macOS us Try on macOS.
  5. Once that fully downloads find it in your files and run the installation file.
    • Follow the steps below if you are on an IT Managed Computer to temporarily grant yourself administrator rights.
      • Open the Windows search and search for Make Me Admin and open the program
      • Once Make Me Admin is open, click the Grant Me Administrator Rights to temporarily become an admin on the computer
        • if it still doesn't work, try logging off after clicking the Grant Me administrator Rights and immediately logging in and try again
      • If you have problems with this process, or you do not have the Make Me Admin application, please call the IT Service Center at 701-231-8685 for further assistance
    • Contact your department's IT support if you are not on an IT Managed Computer and need assistance
  6. It may ask you to sign in to Adobe, sign in using the same NDSU account login as before.
  7. From there the installation file will have further instructions.

Photoshop Elements

  1. Once the license has been granted, you can sign in to adobe with your NDSU account login. (first.last@ndsu.edu)
  2. In the search bar at the top search "Photoshop Elements".
    • It is important that you download "Elements" if you have the elements license, if you try to use the normal Photoshop it will not let you.
  3. Choose Download Photoshop Elements.
  4. In this page you will see a small table under Adobe Photoshop Elements.
  5. Click on the blue button that says Download 64-bit under "For Windows", or for macOS Download under "for macOS".
  6. Once that fully downloads find it in your files and run the installation file.
    • Follow the steps below if you are on an IT Managed Computer to temporarily grant yourself administrator rights.
      • Open the Windows search and search for Make Me Admin and open the program
      • Once Make Me Admin is open, click the Grant Me Administrator Rights to temporarily become an admin on the computer
        • if it still doesn't work, try logging off after clicking the Grant Me administrator Rights and immediately logging in and try again
      • If you have problems with this process, or you do not have the Make Me Admin application, please call the IT Service Center at 701-231-8685 for further assistance
    • Contact your department's IT support if you are not on an IT Managed Computer and need assistance
  7. It may ask you to sign in to Adobe, sign in using the same NDSU account login as before.
  8. From there the installation file will have further instructions.

Premiere Elements / Premier Elements Pro

  1. Once the license has been granted, you can sign in to adobe with your NDSU account login. (first.last@ndsu.edu)
  2. In the search bar at the top search "Premiere Elements".
    • It is important that you download "Elements" if you have the elements license, if you try to use the normal Premiere it will not let you.
  3. Choose Download Premiere Elements.
  4. In this page you will see a small table under Adobe Premiere Elements.
  5. Click on the blue button that says Download 64-bit under "For Windows", or for macOS Download under "for macOS".
  6. Once that fully downloads find it in your files and run the installation file.
    • Follow the steps below if you are on an IT Managed Computer to temporarily grant yourself administrator rights.
      • Open the Windows search and search for Make Me Admin and open the program
      • Once Make Me Admin is open, click the Grant Me Administrator Rights to temporarily become an admin on the computer
        • if it still doesn't work, try logging off after clicking the Grant Me administrator Rights and immediately logging in and try again

  7. It may ask you to sign in to Adobe, sign in using the same NDSU account login as before.

AutoCad

Installing AutoCad

Follow the instructions below to install AutoCad once you have received notification that your license has been assigned.

  1. Sign in to AutoDesk using your NDUS account login. (first.last@ndus.edu)
  2. In the top right corner click on your user icon and in the pop down menu click on "Products and Services".
  3. There you should see all of the products you have access to, simply click the download button next to AutoCad.
  4. Once the file is downloaded, open it and run the installation file.
    • Follow the steps below if you are on an IT Managed Computer to temporarily grant yourself administrator rights.
      • Open the Windows search and search for Make Me Admin and open the program
      • Once Make Me Admin is open, click the Grant Me Administrator Rights to temporarily become an admin on the computer
        • if it still doesn't work, try logging off after clicking the Grant Me administrator Rights and immediately logging in and try again
      • If you have problems with this process, or you do not have the Make Me Admin application, please call the IT Service Center at 701-231-8685 for further assistance
    • Contact your department's IT support if you are not on an IT Managed Computer and need assistance
  5. It may ask you to sign in to you AutoDesk account again, sign in using the same NDUS account login as before.
  6. From there the installation file will have further instructions.

Camtasia / Snagit

Installing Camtasia

Follow the instructions below to install Camtasia once you have received notification that your license has been assigned.

  1. Follow the link to download Camtasia.
  2. Once the file is fully downloaded, open it and run the installation file.
    • Follow the steps below if you are on an IT Managed Computer to temporarily grant yourself administrator rights.
      • Open the Windows search and search for Make Me Admin and open the program
      • Once Make Me Admin is open, click the Grant Me Administrator Rights to temporarily become an admin on the computer
        • if it still doesn't work, try logging off after clicking the Grant Me administrator Rights and immediately logging in and try again
      • If you have problems with this process, or you do not have the Make Me Admin application, please call the IT Service Center at 701-231-8685 for further assistance
    • Contact your department's IT support if you are not on an IT Managed Computer and need assistance
  3. Click on login and use your NDUS account to sign in to TechSmith.
  4. Then when it asks for an activation key, you should have received an email from Software Licensing that has the key.
  5. From there the installation file will have further instructions.

Installing Snagit

Follow the instructions below to install Snagit once you have received notification that your license has been assigned.

  1. Follow the link to download Snagit.
  2. Once the file is fully downloaded, open it and run the installation file.
    • Follow the steps below if you are on an IT Managed Computer to temporarily grant yourself administrator rights.
      • Open the Windows search and search for Make Me Admin and open the program
      • Once Make Me Admin is open, click the Grant Me Administrator Rights to temporarily become an admin on the computer
        • if it still doesn't work, try logging off after clicking the Grant Me administrator Rights and immediately logging in and try again
      • If you have problems with this process, or you do not have the Make Me Admin application, please call the IT Service Center at 701-231-8685 for further assistance
    • Contact your department's IT support if you are not on an IT Managed Computer and need assistance
  3. Click on login and use your NDUS account to sign in to TechSmith.
  4. Then when it asks for an activation key, you should have received an email from Software Licensing that has the key.
  5. From there the installation file will have further instructions.

ESRI ArcGIS Pro

Accessing ESRI ArcGIS Pro

ArcGIS Pro: Go to  https://ndsu.maps.arcgis.com/  and sign in with your Bison Login

Download Instructions:

1. Click on Profile icon then go to My settings > Licenses
2. Scroll down to ArcGIS Pro and click Download ArcGIS Pro

Activation Instructions:

1. Once you have installed and opened ArcGIS Pro it will prompt you to sign in. Be sure to click the "Your ArcGIS organization's URL" option and then enter "ndsu" and hit continue.
2. Log in with your Bison Login.

IBM SPSS, IBM SPSS Amos, and SPSS Complex Samples

IBM SPSS

If you are installing the software on an IT managed computer, you can follow the instructions under IT Managed Computers, otherwise follow the instructions under Non-IT Managed Computers

IT Managed Computers

  1. Follow the instructions at the Self-Installed Software on IT-Managed Computers page

Non-IT Managed Computers:

  1. Log in with your NDUS credentials on the Software Downloads Page
  2. Locate the section for SPSS
  3. Open the SPSS 29 Installation and License Activation Instructions.docx file and follow the instructions

IBM SPSS Amos

  1. Once you have access granted, you will receive a code.
  2. Contact your department's IT support for help downloading the software.

SPSS Complex Samples

Follow the instructions below to install SPSS Complex Samples once you have received notification that your license has been assigned.

JMP

Installing JMP

If you are installing the software on an IT managed computer, you can follow the instructions under IT Managed Computers, otherwise follow the instructions under Non-IT Managed Computers

IT Managed Computers

  1. Follow the instructions at the Self-Installed Software on IT-Managed Computers page

Non-IT Managed Computers:

  1. Log in with your NDUS credentials on the Software Downloads Page
  2. Locate the JMP section
  3. Download the JMP zip file
  4. Extract the files
  5. Navigate down to the JMP exe file and run it
  6. If youre asked whether you want to allow the program to make changes to your computer, choose Yes.
  7. Click Next
  8. Click Next again
  9. Check the box for SAS software integration if you use SAS.
  10. Click Next.
  11. Click Install to proceed. The installation can take anywhere between 5- 30 minutes based on the system being used.
  12. When installation is complete, check the box Create desktop shortcut. You could optionally check for software updates but it is not necessary.
  13. It is a good idea to restart the system once installation is complete.

Microsoft Software

Microsoft Project Pro

  1. Login to your NDUS account on the Office 365 portal.
  2. Click "Install and more", then click "Install Microsoft 365 apps".
  3. Under Apps and devices, select Project Pro.
  4. Once the file has been fully downloaded, open it and run the installation file.
    • Follow the steps below if you are on an IT Managed Computer to temporarily grant yourself administrator rights.
      • Open the Windows search and search for Make Me Admin and open the program
      • Once Make Me Admin is open, click the Grant Me Administrator Rights to temporarily become an admin on the computer
        • if it still doesn't work, try logging off after clicking the Grant Me administrator Rights and immediately logging in and try again
      • If you have problems with this process, or you do not have the Make Me Admin application, please call the IT Service Center at 701-231-8685 for further assistance
    • Contact your department's IT support if you are not on an IT Managed Computer and need assistance

Microsoft Visio Pro

  1. Login to your NDUS account on the Office 365 portal.
  2. Click "Install and more", then click "Install Microsoft 365 apps".
  3. Under Apps and devices, select Visio Pro.
  4. Once the file has been fully downloaded, open it and run the installation file.
    • Follow the steps below if you are on an IT Managed Computer to temporarily grant yourself administrator rights.
      • Open the Windows search and search for Make Me Admin and open the program
      • Once Make Me Admin is open, click the Grant Me Administrator Rights to temporarily become an admin on the computer
        • if it still doesn't work, try logging off after clicking the Grant Me administrator Rights and immediately logging in and try again

Microsoft Visual Studio Pro

  1. Go to the link and sign in with your NDUS account login.
  2. Under community click "Free Download".
  3. Once the file is fully downloaded open it and run the installation file.
    • Follow the steps below if you are on an IT Managed Computer to temporarily grant yourself administrator rights.
      • Open the Windows search and search for Make Me Admin and open the program
      • Once Make Me Admin is open, click the Grant Me Administrator Rights to temporarily become an admin on the computer
        • if it still doesn't work, try logging off after clicking the Grant Me administrator Rights and immediately logging in and try again
      • If you have problems with this process, or you do not have the Make Me Admin application, please call the IT Service Center at 701-231-8685 for further assistance
    • Contact your department's IT support if you are not on an IT Managed Computer and need assistance
  4. Sign in with your NDUS account login.

Microsoft Office Suite

Microsoft Office is installed automatically on all IT supported computers. IT is unable to install Microsoft Office for non-IT supported computers.

Departmental Supported:

  • Please work with your department's IT contact for assistance installing the software

Self-Supported

  • If you need assistance and you are not supported by IT nor a department IT contact, the NDSU Bookstore Service Department offers assistance with installing Windows for a fee. You will need to have the installation file to provide them.

IT Managed Computers

If you need to reinstall or upgrade your version of Microsoft Office:

  1. Follow the instructions at the Self-Installed Software on IT-Managed Computers page

Microsoft 365 Account Licenses

Microsoft CoPilot Pro License Upgrade

  • No installation is needed once it has been assigned to your account

Microsoft 365 A3 License Upgrade

  • No installation is needed once it has been assigned to your account

Microsoft Power BI Pro

Power BI can be accessed in the Microsoft 365 Web Access or you can install the Desktop Client.

Statistical Analysis System (SAS)

Installing Statistical Analysis System (SAS)

If you are installing the software on an IT managed computer, you can follow the instructions under IT Managed Computers, otherwise follow the instructions under Non-IT Managed Computers

IT Managed Computers

  1. Follow the instructions at the Self-Installed Software on IT-Managed Computers page

Non-IT Managed Computers:

  1. Log in with your NDUS credentials on the Software Downloads Page
  2. Locate the SAS section
  3. Open the SAS 9.4 Installation Guide.pdf file and follow the instructions

Windows OS

Windows is installed automatically on all IT supported computers. IT is unable to install Windows for non-IT supported computers.

Departmental Supported:

  • Please work with your department's IT contact for assistance installing the software

Self-Supported

  • If you need assistance and you are not supported by IT nor a department IT contact, the NDSU Bookstore Service Department offers assistance with installing Windows for a fee. You will need to have the installation file to provide them.

Wolfram Mathematica

  1. Log in with your NDUS credentials on the Software Downloads Page
  2. Locate the Wolfram Mathematica section
  3. Select the option to complete the order form from Mathematica based on your role at NDSU
