Multi-Factor Authentication FAQs
MFA Frequently Asked Questions
1. What should I do if I receive a DUO prompt when I didn't log into anything?
If you receive a DUO prompt that you did not initiate, deny the prompt and mark it as fraud. (press * on a Duo phone call to report fraud) Change your password for all accounts that use that password. For instructions on resetting your NDSU and NDUS passwords, visit Password Management for Bison Login and N.D. University System Account. If you have any questions, you can contact the IT Service Center at 701-231-8685.
2. How can I minimize the amount of times I am prompted to approve Duo requests when accessing PeopleSoft, Blackboard, and Email?
Check the box next to "Remember me for 10 hours" before choosing how the request is sent, then send the prompt to approve Duo.
3. I am unable to check the "Remember me" box because I am automatically prompted for my Duo Push.
To see the option to "Remember me," click the Cancel button on the prompt, check the box, and click the Send Me a Push button to resend your prompt. Confirm the prompt.
4. My code-generating token is not working.
Your token may be out of sync. Contact the IT Service Center and they can help you configure your token to work
5. What should I do if I am unable to receive a Duo Push, Phone Call, or Text? (ex. traveling and will not have network access)
There are multiple options for this scenario.
- If you have the Duo Mobile App installed on your phone, open the app and use the Passcode displayed in the app, you may need to click a "Show" button to see the actual code. This code will work with or without network access, so long as you have access to the Duo Mobile App on your device.
- The other option is to purchase a Code Generator from the NDSU Bookstore and have that set up on your account. This device can be carried on your keychain and has a button you push to generate a code when you need to log in but do not have access to your main device. If you are interested in a Code Generator, please see the Electronics Department in the NDSU Bookstore.
6. I can't log in because the Duo prompt on my iPhone is blank.
This is caused by the Content Restrictions in iOS. Instructions on how to fix this can be found at How do I resolve Duo Prompt display issues related to iOS or macOS content restrictions?
7. I'm not able to receive the Duo Push on my Android phone.
Troubleshooting tips and potential fixes to this problem can be found at Troubleshooting Duo Push notification issues on Android devices
