CCAST Summer 2024 HPC Bootcamp

A one-week, intensive HPC training program for faculty and graduate students whose research involves significant computational work.

New for Summer 2024, the Center for Computationally Assisted Science and Technology (CCAST) is offering a free Summer HPC bootcamp. Based on content from our workshop series offered in previous semesters, this one-week intensive training program aims to get faculty and graduate students up and running quickly with the fundamentals of HPC. Topics include:

  • Introduction to HPC
  • Anatomy of a supercomputer
  • Logging into CCAST HPC clusters
  • Interacting with a text-based terminal
  • Basic Linux/UNIX commands
  • Managing scientific software environments
  • Submitting jobs to run on HPC clusters
  • Parallel and high throughput computing
  • Accelerated computing with GPUs
  • Developing and fine-tuning your own computational workflows

In addition to lectures and hands-on exercises on the above topics, participants will have time in the afternoon each day to apply what they have learned to their own research. Therefore, participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own code, data, and computational research problems to the bootcamp.

The bootcamp will be held in-person at NDSU, August 12-16, 2024. A detailed schedule will be made available to participants closer to the event.

Eligibility

Application for the Summer HPC bootcamp is open to faculty, staff, and graduate students at NDSU only. Registration will be limited, and applicants will be selected based on several factors, including research focus, computational tools needed, and role at NDSU (graduate student, faculty, or staff). Applicants with a clear, demonstrated need for advanced computing in their research will be given priority.

The deadline for application is June 15. Applicants will be notified July 1 whether they have been accepted or not.

If you have questions about the program, please send an email to ndsu.ccast.support@ndsu.edu.
