Departmental Printing - Securing Your Network Printer
ITS recommends that you secure your network printers by implementing these best practices.
The first step is to request a permanent network address for the printer: Departmental Printing - Request Printer Network Address
Once you have the address, you will need to set the following settings:
- Device Password:
- Administrator Password:
- Supervisor Password:
- PJL Password:
- File System Password:
- System Contact System Location - Set to Building/Room (eg QBB 236)
- Telnet. Disable
- IPX/SPX . Disable
- AppleTalk . Disable
- DLC/LLC . Disable
- SNMP . Set the “Set Community Name” & the “Get Community Name” to something other than "Public"
- SLP Config . Disable
- Bonjour . Disable
- FTP Printing . Disable
- IPP Printing . Disable
- HP XML Services . Disable
- Multicast IPv4 . Disable
- Web Services Print . Disable
- WS-Discovery . Disable
- RCFG . Disable
- Privacy Settings . Disable “Allow product information to be sent to HP”
- Encryption Strength . Set to High & Encrypt all Web communication
