Congratulations to all spring 2020 graduates! As you prepare to move forward with your career, please remember to pack your digital files and take them with you.

Important info about your NDSU accounts

  • NDSU email accounts are managed by the N.D. University System (NDUS). As a result, your email account will not close at this time. While your NDSU email account remains active, you may choose to forward email from that account to your personal account to simplify your life.
  • Your other NDSU accounts are scheduled to be removed in fall 2020, at which time you will lose access to computer labs, G-suite (i.e., Google Docs, Drive, Sites, YouTube), online library services, and other NDSU IT services.
To prepare for the closing of your NDSU accounts:
  1. Download and save files stored in your NDSU accounts
  2. Update your contact information in Campus Connection
  3. Remove NDSU-provided software from your personal computer
  4. Consider forwarding your NDSU email to a personal account
Detailed instructions for each of these steps are given below.

Step 1: Download and save files stored in your NDSU accounts

Download and save files stored in your NDSU accounts to your computer or other personal file storage area. These may include files stored in Blackboard Content, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive for Business and your NDSU email account.

Blackboard Content

  1. Log in to Blackboard using your NDSU credentials
  2. Click the Content tab in Blackboard
  3. Check the box next to each document you want to download and save (or check the box at the top to select all)
  4. Click Download Package to generate a .zip folder
  5. Click OK or Save, and then choose where to save the folder on your personal computer, disk or USB flash drive

Google Drive

  1. Log in to your Google account
  2. Click Drive
  3. Check the box next to each document you want to download and save (or check the box at the top to select all)
  4. Click the More button at the top of the page, and then choose Download
  5. Click Download to generate a .zip folder
  6. Click OK or Save, and then choose where to save the folder on your personal computer, disk or USB flash drive

Microsoft OneDrive for Business (optional)

If you have not yet done so, download and install the OneDrive for Business client to prepare your computer to sync the files.

Sync your OneDrive files to your computer

  1. Log in to your NDSU Office 365 account
  2. Click on OneDrive in the top menu
  3. On your OneDrive for Business page, click Sync
  4. At the prompt, click Sync Now to start the sync app
  5. Click Sync Now in the app to start the syncing
  6. Click Show my files to open the synced OneDrive for Business folder in File Explorer
  7. Once your OneDrive for Business client is synced, a green check mark will appear next to each file or folder

Copy your synced files to your computer

  1. Create a new folder on your computer where you want to save the files
  2. Open the new folder and open your OneDrive for Business folder
  3. Highlight the files you want to copy in your OneDrive folder and drag them into the new folder
  4. Wait for the files to finish copying
  5. Verify you can open some of the copied files

Disconnect and uninstall your OneDrive for Business account from your computer

  1. Right click on the OneDrive for Business icon in the system tray
  2. Click Stop syncing a folder
  3. Select OneDrive – North Dakota State University
  4. Click Stop syncing
  5. Click Yes
  6. Go to the Start menu and select Control Panel
  7. In the upper right corner, change View by:  to Small icons or Large icons
  8. Open Programs and Features
  9. Find OneDrive or OneDrive for Business in the list of programs
  10. Right click on the name and select Uninstall
  11. Follow the prompts to uninstall the OneDrive for Business client

NDSU Email (optional)

You have two options for moving important email messages and attachments out of your NDSU email account:
  1. Manually forward important messages to a personal email account, or
  2. Set up both your NDSU email account and a personal email account in a single email client (e.g., Microsoft Outlook), and then drag the messages from your NDSU account to your personal account. View instructions on how to set up your NDSU email account in some email clients.

Step 2: Update your contact information in Campus Connection

Add your personal email address as your preferred email address in Campus Connection to continue receiving important messages after graduation.
  1. Go to Campus Connection
  2. Log in using your NDUS credentials
  3. Click the Profile tile
  4. Click Contact Details
  5. Click the Add Email Address icon
  6. Click the Email Type drop down, and then select the type
  7. Enter your personal email address in the Email Address field
  8. Check the Preferred box, and then click the Save button to finish

Step 3: Remove NDSU-provided software from your personal computer

If you've installed NDSU-provided software on your personal computer for use as an NDSU student (e.g., Read & Write Gold), be sure to remove that software from your computer.

Step 4: Set up email forwarding

If you haven't yet done so, set up a personal email account with an address that reflects your professionalism. Update resumes and other job application materials with your new email address. Consider forwarding your NDSU email to that personal account to simplify your life.
  1. Go to http://login.microsoftonline.com
  2. Log in using your @ndus.edu address and password
  3. Select Outlook account
  4. Click on the gear icon in the top right corner of the page and click View all Outlook settings
  5. Select Mail in the left menu, click Forwarding
  6. In the Forwarding section of the page, Enable forwarding
  7. Enter the email address to which you would like your messages forwarded
  8. Check the box to ensure you keep a copy of forwarded messages
  9. Click Save to finish
