Office 365 - Email/Outlook Setup

Follow the instructions below to connect your desktop Outlook client and mobile Microsoft Outlook apps to your Office 365 email account. Due to security protocols in Office 365, Outlook and the Microsoft Outlook mobile apps are the only supported applications guaranteed to work on your devices.

Sign in to Outlook in a Web Browser

  1. Go to the Microsoft Office 365 login page
  2. Enter your NDSU email username (typically FirstName.LastName@ndus.edu)
  3. Enter the password associated with your N.D. University System ID
  4. Click Sign In
  5. You will then be asked to approve a Multi-Factor Authentication prompt
  6. An Outlook Web App page should now load, choose your language and Time Zone and click OK to finish
  7. You should now see your Inbox

Outlook Desktop Client

  1. Open the Outlook application on your desktop
  2. If you are using the Windows version of Outlook, enter a Profile Name and click OK
  3. Enter your NDSU email username (typically Firstname.Lastname@ndus.edu)
  4. Click Connect
  5. Enter your N.D. University System ID password
  6. Click Sign in
  7. You will then be asked to approve a Multi-Factor Authentication prompt
  8. Click OK once the setup is complete
  9. Outlook should then automatically open

Microsoft Outlook Mobile App

  1. Download and install the Microsoft Outlook app from your device's App Store
  2. Open the Microsoft Outlook App once it is finished installing
  3. Click Get Started
  4. Enter your NDSU email username (typically Firstname.Lastname@ndus.edu)
  5. Click Continue
  6. Enter your N.D. University System ID password
  7. Click Sign In
  8. You will then be asked to approve a Multi-Factor Authentication prompt
  9. Click Skip when prompted to add another account
  10. Click through the tutorial screens or click Skip to be taken into your account

Tips

Using OWA (Online Web Access) as an app on Android

If you want to use OWA instead of the Microsoft Outlook mobile app on an Android device, you can make it faster to access by creating an "app" on your home screen. Follow the instructions below to add it to your home screen:
  1. Open the chrome browser on your phone
  2. Go to portal.microsoftonline.com
  3. Login with your N.D. University System credentials
    1. Approve the DUO prompt 
  4. Click on the Outlook icon in the upper left of the portal page to open your email
  5. Click on the three vertical dots in the upper right
  6. Click Add to Home screen

What if I run Linux when there is no Outlook app?

The Linux Evolution Mail client is able to connect to Office 365. The University System has provided the following Configuration information.
